Woodward: Camp

Apologies for image quality, as my computer crashed I had to scan and adjust this using paint.net. I really liked this challenge and look forward to another one, perhaps next week...
I'm eager for constructive criticism in the comments. I often read other peoples comics and think, 'if only the added that extra panel' or ' if only they didn't word it that way, or have that facial expression...' what do you think? What works, what doesn't?

  1. Done with a Copic marker that my comic camp pals are so fond of, I thought I'd give it a try

  2. I am thinking "If only he had put a question mark at the end of that question in the last panel"
    more seriously:
I think it's neat, it's a nice simple moment. Love the blues. I think you could probably have done a bit more with shadows and stuff, made it darker, creepier. Like shadows across the peoples faces, made it a bit more "dramatic", if that was what you are shooting for. Or maybe have part of the silhouette of the dude in the second panel. Get lower-down and more 'cramped' in the tent.

Also - and bear in mind this is getting super goddamn picky - if it were me I might have left off the dialog in the last panel, too. Or gone with something like "but...". What you have there is too much, to me. Although the specificity of "creaking" is kind of good too.

Anyhow, sorry if this comes off as at all dickish, obviously feel free to pick apart whatever half-arsed nonsense I post up.

  3. Thats great Andrew. I know it can be nerve racking giving critique but i made this comic to be critiqued! I really appreciate your insights into it. As for the question mark I felt it was a rhetorical question as he already stated he didn't hear anything. I could be wrong on my interpretation on that. I can see how the last panel could of been less wordy. I was thinking of adding a few more panel with the creaking noises coming from the bushes etc, maybe a yhetti or two...

  4. I think its good Antonio!

Having read Andrew's comics - I do agree - but I hadn't thought of any of them myself (expect the question mark) until I'd read them!

Is this a true story - or are you doing fiction again? If it's fiction then I think this is particularly good as it means you are embracing the fiction side of comics a bit more! It doesn't always need to be true and serious - comics are allowed to be comical sometimes!

All in all good work my friend - I wanted to colour mine too - but I got scared!
